Powerplay Review

Edenbridge were one of the first female fronted metal bands, and remain at the top of the class. They were always more celestial than Nightwish, taking a much more serine and meditative approach. They were also better musicians. This six-disc DVD set is an absolute essential for the dedicated fan, containing pretty much every inch of footage ever taken of the band, plus interviews, backstage footage, videos and a documentary that spans the whole collection. I say documentary, but it´s really just the band sitting round a table, discussing everything from their origins to where they are at today. The early days of the band are of great interest to someone like me, who has followed their career from 2004, and takes great joy in finding out more about the power metal invasion of the early 2000s, which Edenbridge were part of. The casual fan will learn a lot from watching this, but it is a massive investment, given the fact that this really is a history of the band, from the smallest detail to the largest. Nevertheless, it just goes to show how much work has been put into Edenbridge, and how great the genius of guitarist and founder Lanvall truly is. Mesmerizing stuff.
